Our Story

Bringing a new perspective to wine making in Texas.

Rolling Texas Hill Country landscape at golden hour, warm amber and soft green tones stretching toward a distant ridge under a wide sky.

Named for the prominent volcanic formation roughly six miles southeast of the vineyard, Pilot Knob Vineyard was founded with a clear purpose: to bring a fresh perspective to Texas wine making. Perched on a ridge overlooking the Hill Country, the vineyard draws on the region's distinctive terrain and climate to craft wines that reflect a true sense of place.

From the beginning, the vision has been to deliver a wine experience unlike any Texas has offered before — one rooted in the character of the land itself. Every bottle is an expression of that commitment, shaped by the volcanic soils and sweeping ridgeline views that define this corner of Burnet County.

The story of Pilot Knob Vineyard begins with the land itself — a ridge overlooking the Texas Hill Country, shaped by volcanic history and the quiet rhythms of the seasons. The vineyard's name honors the prominent formation that rises roughly six miles to the southeast, a constant reminder of the region's ancient origins. From this vantage point, the vines draw on well-drained soils, generous sunshine, and the cooling influence of elevation to produce fruit with character and depth. It is a setting that invites patience and observation, and the winemaking approach reflects that same thoughtful spirit, letting each vintage express the particular personality of the place where it was grown.

The vision behind Pilot Knob Vineyard has always been to offer something genuinely new to Texas wine lovers. Rather than following trends or imitating other regions, the winery embraces the unique conditions of the Hill Country — its rocky terrain, its dramatic temperature swings, its unmistakable sense of open space. Every bottle is crafted with the intention of capturing that distinctiveness, delivering an experience that feels both familiar and refreshingly original. Visitors are welcomed into this perspective through tastings and events that celebrate the connection between the land and the glass, inviting guests to slow down, look out over the ridge, and appreciate the care that goes into each pour.

Beyond the wines themselves, Pilot Knob Vineyard is a gathering place — a setting where weddings, celebrations, and quiet afternoons unfold against a backdrop of rolling hills and wide Texas skies. The ambiance is intimate and unhurried, designed to complement the natural beauty that surrounds the property. Whether a guest is exploring the tasting room for the first time, joining the wine club to follow the journey across vintages, or simply enjoying the view with a glass in hand, the experience is rooted in hospitality and a genuine love for the craft. The vineyard continues to grow and evolve, always guided by the same founding purpose: to share the character of this remarkable place with every person who visits.
